Day 3

Sunday morning Gavin woke up hungry and thirsty, so we had high hopes for the day. But........ it didn't last too long. Soon as we stepped outside, out came all that he had drank that morning. Bummer!!

We started out around 7 am, and headed to find some Redwoods, and then drive up the Oregon Coast up to Astoria.

This boat was right outside our hotel. Apparently it was for sale. :

We found some pretty big ones. With Gavin still under the weather, we didn't get out of the car much. It was fun just driving through though. It felt like we should be seeing dinosaurs walking around us. The trees soo big, we felt so tiny. We found this one right on the side of the road, so we were able to pull over and check it out. Beau looks so tiny in there. It was all hollowed out so we could go in it and move around a bit.

Poor Gavin. We would ask him how he was doing and we would reply with 'I'm sick'. He was so miserable, but it was kind of nice because he was so chill about everything.
Isn't the view just beautiful! It took almost an hour of driving up the coast line before the fog disappeared enough to actually see the ocean.

We met up with Beau's family at the Sea Lion Caves. My parents had gone here only a month earlier and said it was a must see. It was pretty crazy seeing so many sea lions just laying around on the rocks. We went down inside the cave, but there were no sea lions in there at the time. It was still pretty cool seeing the inside of the cave.

This place was a turning point for Gavin. When we stopped here he finally wanted to try to eat something again. It was candy, but we were willing to give him anything if he could keep it down. He took him a long time to eat it, but he ate it all. He was excited to be here and Beau spoiled them both by getting them baby sea lions toys that make noise when he tap their backs. Beau is such a sucker when they are sick.

For dinner that night we stopped in Tillamook at the Fern. It was good to have a good sit down meal and look at our pictures of the day. Gavin was feeling so much better and actually ate some real food. It was great!

We were going to stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory, but it was Sunday and after 5, so we thought they might have been closed. But we should have known better considering we weren't in Utah, they could be open. After dinner when we went to check it out, we were 10 minutes late! They closed at 8 pm. Dang it, so instead we finished our journey to Astoria.
